Justin is ready for school!

Yeah, it's Friday!  We made Indian ice cream this week. (India the country not Native American) Megan and I tasted it and decided it wasn't half bad.  The only thing I had to put in it was bananas and we both agreed it probably would have been better with a different fruit choice and chocolate!!  Of course, Justin refused to taste it.

Today we went on a field trip with the homeschool group to the Military Museum here in Sumter.  Yes, you read that correctly, we have a military museum.  I have to say I was rather impressed.  It is put together by Sammy Way or Coach Way for those of us who graduated from Sumter High.  He has a passion for history and is/was a fantastic teacher and coach.  He also writes a column for The Item in the Panorama section that runs on Sundays.  He has a fantastic collection of "stuff" from Sumter people who were involved in WWI, WWII, Vietnam, The Korean War, etc.  It is located on Harvin St. at the Transportation center.  He is open on Sunday afternoons from 2-4.  If you have a minute, I suggest you stop by some time.

Dog tags from WWI.

This is so cool!  Periscope from WWI.

The kids loved this, a 3D viewer.

We are getting close to wrapping up India.  It is a fascinating culture.  Next, the Middle East and then on to Africa.  We tried our hand at looming this week.  I bought a few craft kits at Michaels.  I have found that the crafts are a lot harder than expected and often come with little to no directions.  Rather frustrating, but we finally figured it out.

Megan is reading Helen Keller and Justin just finished reading Louis Braille, so we watched the movie "The Miracle Worker" today.  Our new read aloud is The Fallacy Detective.  It is a book written by two homeschooled brothers about how to recognize bad reasoning.

Field Trip

We took advantage of the great spring weather and took a trip to the farm on Wednesday.  We had a great time fishing, riding the four wheeler, riding in the boat, riding in the back of the truck and walking around.

Waiting for the fish to bite.  Justin is more interested in the container of worms!
Papa is showing Megan how to put a worm on the hook.  She didn't mind picking up the worm, but she wouldn't put it on the hook.  Yuck!
Caught one!  Reel it in!
It's a Bass!  Way to go, Megan!

This one's a Brim!
Justin's turn.  He caught a nice sized Brim, but I don't know what happened to the picture.
Megan and Papa in the boat.  Megan learned how to paddle.

My turn!

Megan solo.  She didn't like being by herself at all.  She went out about 2ft. and turned around.  :)

We had a great time!

We watched another episode of Bizarre Foods this week.  The host was dropped off on an island and had to fend for himself.  He had to build a shelter, build a fire, and find water and food.  It fit nicely with our study of survival skills.  We are still in India.  We are reading about Gandhi and Mother Theresa.  This week we will start watching a 10 minute news show on CNN.com.  It is called Student News and is for middle and high school students.  Yep!  We're almost middle schoolers!

Wow, it's hard to believe it is already March.  We are learning about India.  For art, we made miniature paintings which are very popular in India.  (Sorry, I forgot to take a picture.)  We are finding the Indian culture to be rather fascinating.  We just started reading a book titled Daughter of the Mountains by Louise Rankin.  All three of us are enjoying it and look forward to it everyday.  All other subjects are moving along.  We'll continue with our regular studies until April.  In April, we'll take some time to review and prepare for the Stanford test.
