Week Three Review

I'm already behind with keeping up with the blog.  So sorry!  We had a busy week last week.  Lots of riding in the car.  On Tuesday, we went to Harmony church to help our support group kick off the first Club Day classes.  On Wednesday, Justin had OT, then we stopped by Michael's to pick up some more oil pastels and then we went through the drive through at Chick-fil-a. On Friday, we went to the library.  Some how even with all the running around we still managed to get quite a bit of school work done.  We started learning about Australia and the Great Barrier Reef.  Science was still all about the digestive system.  Grammar is still all about prepositions.  Math...well...math is math.  Not much to say about division.  Every thing is going well.  The students (all 2 of them) and the teacher are happy.  : )  (I'll try to do better with taking pictures!  I know the blog is much most interesting with pictures.)

Week Two

Our first week went great and our second week has gotten off to a fantastic start!  We will finish up with the Pacific Islands on Tuesday and move on to Australia.  We finished reading Seabird today and will start Island of the Blue Dolphins tomorrow.  I downloaded the audiobook to Justin's ipod, so I am excited to "listen" to the story.  We will continue with the digestive system this week.  This has lead to many interesting discussions!  Math is moving along.  It is Megan's favorite subject and Justin's least favorite.  : )  On Wednesday, we will make a picture using oil pastels.  On Friday, we will take our first trip to the library because you can never have too many books!

Talented Artists

We did ART today!!!  I'm very proud of myself!  I have to confess.  Art was non-existent in our homeschool last year, so this year I decided to make it more of a priority.  I even bought a curriculum...Artistic Pursuits.  Today we pretended that our yellow constuction paper was "gold leaf".  Justin and Megan glued the "gold leaf" onto their paper and then used watercolors to finish their picture.  Look at my little hard workers! (For those of you that know Justin well...I did have to make him put on a shirt to take this picture!)

Today we started learning about the digestive system.  Justin and Megan worked together to label the parts of the digestive system.  We had a great day!!!

First Day of School AGAIN!

We are happy to welcome Megan to our little school.

We are learning about the islands in the Pacific (Did you know there are over 20,000 islands in the Pacific?), the human body, God's truth, and John and Helen Dekker (missionaries in Papua New Guinea).  We got off to a great start and we look forward to a great year!

BIG NEWS!

The enrollment at Rembert Academy has doubled!  On Monday, August 15, we will be adding a new student...Megan!  We are very excited to have Megan join us on this journey.  She is a 5th grader just like Justin!  Even though we have already started, we have decided to stop for now and start again when Megan can join us.

Week One...DONE

Well, we made it through the first week.  Really can't complain.  Most things went as planned.  A few things need to be tweaked.  We haven't used Rosetta Stone Spanish all summer and so it is having "technical" difficulties.  I'll have to put in a call to customer service next week.  Not real sure about the "composer study" I planned for this year.  It might be pushed aside until I can come up with something else.  We're looking forward to the rest of the year.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

One down and 179 more to go! :)  We had a great first day!  We started at around 9am and were finished around 1:30pm.  Not too bad!  Another great thing about homeschooling is that we don't waste the first day (or week) doing get to know you stuff!  We had a very productive first day!
We read a little bit from each one of these books and had a great discussion about how to know what God has planned for your life!  Justin asks questions that I would never have thought of at 11!
